Donum Estate – Thomas Pinot Noir 2009
A one-off tasting of the most reserved pinot in the Donum wine portfolio at a great midtown bistro
October 29, 2016
This was a one-off tasting of Donum Estate’s most Burgundian styled pinot noir. This particular wine has a very small production and is generally not offered as part of the wineries general offering. It has a slight higher price point at $110/btl.
On the nose, the wine had supple hints of cherries and a touch of dry wood which became much more expressive over time. The wine had a reasonable front palate, good middle palate and a long finish, with the finish evolving much bigger in comparison to the front and middle palate over time. The wine had a complex structure and was dark in color but not completely opaque. While there is still nothing like a top shelf red burgundy that is expressive of its limestone laden soil, this Donum comes close. Still you can’t completely remove the California terroir from the wine, nor should you. |
