Huge Venetian murals adorn the main dining room, which is appropriately named the Canal Grande Room. This romantic restaurant is also finely decorated in an Italian motif, right down to the black and white seat cushions on the banquet along the wall. The highly lacquered floor could also remind one of being at sea.
The noise level was low when we arrived and remained manageable as the restaurant filled up, a likely benefit from the high ceilings. The service was excellent as the waiter was attentive and yet gave us additional time to chat with our guests and taste our wine before taking our order. Additionally, I have been at Remi for pre-theater supper, and have received prompt but un-rushed service when I had a time constraint. The restaurant seemed well staffed and well organized. Our courses were delivered promptly and cleared only after everyone had finished, well done! Attention was also focused on details, like napkin folding, and wine and water service.
I started with the Spaghetti Remi, which is prepared al dente and has a nice spicy kick to it. The dish was served in a light plum tomato sauce with pieces of tomato and garlic. My wife and our guest shared the burrata and prosciutto appetizer. The creamy sweetness of the cheese complimented the saltiness of the ham, creating a very tasty dish. It was also a perfect sharing size. I had the orecchiette pasta with sausage and broccoli rapa. This combination of sausage, pasta and the slight bitterness of the rapa created and excellent dish, which was served in a garlic, olive oil and crushed red pepper sauce. My wife had the penne all’ arrabbiata, the dish was served in a thick spicy tomato sauce with ham and onions. It too was excellent.
