Distinctive and Fresh Food in the Shadow of Basebal's Greats
July 22, 2017
At the crossroads of Main and Chestnut Streets Mel's has a great spot within walking distance of all the major hotels in town. The restaurant has a well-stocked and nicely appointed bar that will easily seat 11. When we arrived at 7:00 P.M., Mel's
already had a good buzz and we felt the ambiance was both inviting and stylish. The noise level was reasonable at the time we were there, and the restaurant was full, and you could easily have a conversation. The restaurant is an owner-operator establishment that has been running since 2014. Several family members work here and you certainly get the feeling they care.
I had the lobster risotto, which was accompanied with four fresh scallops. I could smell the scallops long before they were served, so I am certain they were fresh. They tasted even better. My wife had the salmon special with a mango glaze which was absolutely delicious. The salmon was fresh and perfectly cooked. My father-in-law had the baked haddock. He enjoyed it so much he ordered it again when we came back the second time. My mother-in-law's chicken parmigiana was also excellent. The chicken was tender and the sauce was a very good marinara with basil. To top this off, Mel's ever changing desert menu was also excellent. Pictured below is the Key Lime pie we had, which reminded us we were back in Key West. The cork fee is $10.00/btl.
