Paul Pernot - Bourgogne Aligote 2015
June 16, 2017
This very pleasant wine has hints of minerals and citrus, typical of some French white wines. Its light body makes it the perfect start to a summer cocktail party and its price point makes it a great value.
This wine was light yellow in color, almost Champagne-like, and had some light hints of citrus and a tiny bit of oak on the nose. This was a supple wine but its creamy texture reminds you that it is from Puligny. This grape is an Aligote clone, which has evolved considerably over recent years and has moved beyond its very harsh mineral and acidic roots to become a much more complex grape. It certainly does not have the power of its Chardonnay cousin but is very enjoyable in its own right. Pernot's 2015 vintage of this grape is a light to medium bodied wine that is slightly sweet with some floral hints. It did linger on the middle palate for a while, but had a rather unimpressive finish. The fruit reminded me of a good mixture of sour apple and pear, with some oaky and buttery aspects as well. The wine had reasonable structure and balance for its its retail price point of $20. Cost $20/bottle. Rating DN 4-
