Cozy neighborhood gem with delicious homemade pastas!

Nestled on a quiet side street off of First avenue, in the heart of Beekman Place, is a neighborhood Italian gem. This cozy space was most recently a french bistro and before that a former carriage house whose building dates back to 1910. In this latest incarnation it feels like this southern-Italian restaurant has truly found its home. As you enter, you are greeted by either Luigi who manages the front, or a very friendly wait staff. Although small, the seating is comfortable and the noise level is ok as there are noise baffles overhead which help. The restaurant is decorated just like a small restaurant might be back in Italy and the building's colorful blue, red and yellow stoneware and exposed brick walls gives it both an intimate and rustic feel. The emerald green and dusk blue are reminiscent of the stunning seas and coastline of Puglia, Italy.
The service is impeccable and friendly, one might even argue that staff levels are a bit higher than needed, but this extra level of service makes for a very efficiently run establishment. The food arrived in a very organized fashion and was cleared only after everyone is finished.
For those who love a red sauce pasta, this place is for you. On this particular visit, we started with Orecchiette alla Barese - homemade ear shaped pasta with broccoli rabe, sausage and garlic and a creamy Buffalo Mozzarella and Prosciutto, both were perfectly prepared and very flavorful. The highlight of our visit was sharing a mushroom risotto dish with fresh White Truffles shaved onto the pasta. We love the white truffles as they add so much flavor to almost any dish, and this occasion was no different! We also had Spaghetti Classici al Pomodoro con Basilico, which is spaghetti with tomato and basil as well as Cavatelli Bolognese, which is made with fresh Cavatelli pasta and a nice meat sauce. Both are staples for us and highly recommended. I especially like the Spaghetti Pomodoro con Basil, which is simple yet very flavorful.
On this evening we had a Nutella chocolate cake with some Limoncello, yum!
The cork fee is $25.00/btl.
