Nestled right in the middle of downtown Old Saybrook is a small Greek-owned cafe. While first appearances are not cause for awe and wonder, the line of customers out the door on a Sunday morning is a definite clue that there is something here worth exploring. The cafe is one large room with the kitchen in the rear, as can be seen in the pictures below. We found the decoration, including the group of "regulars" mugs in the corner reminiscent of hometown USA, and the restaurant does have nice outdoor seating weather permitting. The noise level was good, even when full, but then again it was breakfast.
No reservations are taken; just put your name on the list with the owner and we found the list moved quite quickly. We had good service from two wait staff plus bus boys, with prompt attention paid to coffee refills. Despite the two-waiter set-up, the service did move well, which was fortunate as lines would ebb and flow quite regularly. The tables were generous and the spacing was very adequate.
I had scrambled eggs, bacon and toast, while my wife had the chocolate chip pancakes. Both were served promptly and were hot. The pancakes had a generous amount of chocolate chips which my wife was pleased with. The coffee was strong and hot. The menu was expansive and Mirsina's offers breakfast-to-go all day long. We both felt that the food was very fresh and a very good value. The prices were a fraction of what we were charged at the Old Saybrook Inn and the food was higher in quality.
