Leroy (Mason) - Bourgogne Blanc 2014
All oak and nothing but oak - better Chardonnay can be found elsewhere
September 2, 2017

This wine was a pale yellow in color and had a delicate, oaky fruit nose. This wine was certainly creamy, but heavily textured with oak, as is Leroy's particular style. What was not evident in this basic Bourgogne, were any hints of minerality or acidity, likely over-powered by fermentation in oak barrels for 6 - 9 months. It was also not clear if this wine had fully developed, as the oak flavors over-powered so many other aspects of the wine.
For $60+ per bottle I was certainly expecting more diversity than what seemed to be something made in California for half the price. While it is certainly possible this was an off bottle, how many times have I heard that about a French Burgundy? Too many!
For those what want to overspend on an oak-bomb I am sure they will enjoy.
Cost $65.99/bottle.
